Chennai, NFAPost: Education technology platform Unacademy has announced the acquisition of PrepLadder, a leading postgraduate medical entrance exam preparation platform for $50 million.

This acquisition will further strengthen Unacademy’s presence in medical entrance examination categories such as NEET PG and FMGE. As a part of its inorganic growth strategy, Unacademy had recently acquired Kreatryx and taken over the custodianship of CodeChef. 

Started in 2016, PrepLadder specialises in medical examinations and provides access to education services and preparation material for exams such as NEET PG, AIIMS PG, NEET SS, and FMGE. Founded by Deepanshu Goyal, Vitul Goyal, and Sahil Goyal, the company was built with the vision to provide affordable and quality education to students preparing for postgraduate medical entrance exams across the country.

Currently, PrepLadder has expert educators teaching over 85,000 active subscribers.

“As we strengthen our position as a market leader in the test prep market, bringing PrepLadder on board will play a strategic role for Unacademy in the medical entrance examinations category. At Unacademy, we have been working towards democratising education and this acquisition is a step towards achieving that goal,” Unacademy Co-Founder and CEO Gaurav Munjal said.

He added that the exponential growth in Unacademy’s subscriber base is a testament to the increasing demand for quality online education and its consistent efforts.

Founded by Gaurav Munjal, Roman Saini, and Hemesh Singh in 2015, Unacademy was started as a YouTube channel by Gaurav Munjal in 2010. Headquartered in Bengaluru, Unacademy brings expert educators together with millions of students in need of quality education.

With more than 10,000 registered educators and over 30 million learners, the Unacademy group consists of Unacademy, Unacademy Subscription, Wifistudy, Chamomile Tea with Toppers and Let’s Crack it Brands. The company is backed by prominent investors such as Facebook, General Atlantic, Sequoia India, SAIF Partners,
Nexus Venture Partners, Steadview Capital, and Blume Ventures.

In the last 3 months, Unacademy has recorded a 100% increase in its paid subscriber base. With increased emphasis on online learning in recent times, the average daily watch time across Unacademy platforms has witnessed a steep increase of 100%.

The monthly watch time minutes has also reached an all-time high of over 1 billion. Additionally, over 5,25,000 learners attempted various mock tests on the platform for competitive examinations such as UPSC, NEET-PG, and CAT, among others during this period. 

The platform currently caters to over 35 exam categories.
